A new version of of our timed solitaire game Action Solitaire is now
available! Version 1.12 can be downloaded from
http://www.actionsol.com/download.html . Action Solitaire is a collection
of 52 solitaire games played in timed rounds for points - it's different from
regular solitaire as the faster and better you play, the more points you
score.

Version 1.12 contains no new features or games, but contains changes
that enhance Action Solitaire's compatibility with the new Microsoft Vista.
This is a free update for registered users of all previous versions of Action
Solitaire. Just download and install and if a registered previous version
was installed it will find the registration code automatically.

Versions of Action Solitaire prior to 1.12 will run in Microsoft Vista, but
for best results we recommend that you use version 1.12 in Vista. If you
are running Windows 98, Me, or XP, version 1.12 should run just as well as

Featured Game - Picking Pairs
-----------------------------

Action Solitaire is a different game from our other solitaire games. In
Action Solitaire, the game is played in timed rounds for points. Instead of
just trying to move cards to a foundation, you play to score as many
points as possible.

Action Solitaire contains many classic solitaire games, such as Klondike,
Yukon, FreeCell, Sea Towers, Spider, Spider One Suit, Spider Two Suits,
Scorpion, Golf, Gaps, Montana, and many other classic games converted
to this timed rounds format.

But Action Solitaire also contains other games, like Triple Peaks, Triple
Towers, Hidden Sums, BlackJack Speed and Picking Pairs, which are
designed for this different format.

Picking Pairs is a discard matching game, like Pyramid. At the beginning
of the game, 33 cards are dealt face up in 6 rows, alternating 6 cards and
5 cards per row. The rows partially cover one another, and only
completely uncovered cards are available.

The remaining cards form a stock, which is turned over one card at a time
to a waste pile. The top card of the waste pile is available for play.

As the name Picking Pairs suggests, play consists of pairing cards. Select
pairs of available cards of the same rank (such as a pair of Jacks), or two
cards of adjacent ranks (such as a Six and a Seven). Kings and Aces are
considered adjacent.

The objective is to pair as many cards as possible to score points. You
score 3000 points for every pair of cards of the same rank discarded, and
500 points for every pair of adjacent ranks discarded. This means that it
is important to pair cards of the same rank if possible since that gives you
a much higher score. You score 10000 bonus points for clearing the entire
tableau.

Every time you clear the tableau or run out of time, it ends a round. At
the beginning of each round there is a goal score that you must achieve to
advance to the next round. Each round this score is a little higher, and
each round you have slightly less time to complete the round.
