Goodsol Newsletter #126 ----------------------- http://www.goodsol.com Goodsol Solitaire 101 ---------------------- http://www.goodsol.com/101 We have released a new game - Goodsol Solitaire 101 is a collection of 101 of the best popular solitaire games for Windows. It can be downloaded from http://www.goodsol.com/101 . Goodsol Solitaire 101 is the latest step in our long term plan for a complete redesign of all of our solitaire games. The first step was Most Popular Solitaire (see http://www.moposol.com ). Most Popular Solitaire is a collection of only 30 of the most popular solitaire games, for people who only play a small number of games. Goodsol Solitaire 101 expands this to 101 games and adds a number of additional features. For the complete list of games and features, see http://www.goodsol.com/101/features.html . All of the games in Goodsol Solitaire 101 are in Pretty Good Solitaire, so this is just another smaller, cheaper collection of solitaire games for those who don't want the full variety that is in Pretty Good Solitaire. However there is one new feature in Goodsol Solitaire 101 that is not in Pretty Good Solitaire. Goodsol Solitaire 101 features a new way of playing called "Climb Mode". Pretty Good MahJongg users will be familiar with this as it is in that game, but this is the first of our solitaire games to feature it. In Climb Mode, the first time you play a game you begin with game #1, and each time you play you are given the next game in sequence (#2, #3, and so on). There are special statistics for Climb Mode and a cumulative score is kept, so that not only is winning and losing important, but also the number of points you score. There are new separate high scores lists on the web site for Climb Mode. Climb Mode will be added to Pretty Good Solitaire in the future, but for now it is available only in Goodsol Solitaire 101 (and Pretty Good MahJongg). TO DOWNLOAD The trial version of Goodsol Solitaire 101 can be downloaded from http://www.goodsol.com/101/download.html . The trial version is limited to game numbers 1 to 30 for each game. The full version of Goodsol Solitaire 101 allows game numbers of up to over 2 billion. In addition, there are 34 bonus games in the full version. These are variations in the rules of the original 101 games. For a list of the bonus games, see http://www.goodsol.com/101/features.html TO ORDER Goodsol Solitaire 101 is US$19.95 and can be ordered at http://www.goodsol.com/101/orderonline.html . With the release of Goodsol Solitaire 101, we are also lowering the price of the 30 game Most Popular Solitaire game to US$16.95. Most Popular Solitaire can be ordered at http://www.moposol.com/orderonline.html WHAT'S COMING NEXT Goodsol Solitaire 101 is a part of a long term project where we are completely re-building Pretty Good Solitaire in very flexible, multi- platform way. The first step was the 30 game Most Popular Solitaire game and the 30 game first version of Pretty Good Solitaire Mac Edition. Next up will be the Mac port of Goodsol Solitaire 101. The Mac version of this game will be the next version of Pretty Good Solitaire Mac Edition, which will be released very soon. The 101 game list at http://www.goodsol.com/101/features.html will in fact be the games list for the next version of the Mac Edition and it will contain all of the other features as well (including Climb Mode and the bonus games in the full version). This update will be a free update for all registered users of Pretty Good Solitaire Mac Edition. After the 101 game Mac version, next we will be expanding the number of games to 200 and adding more features. While we are going to be able to add games quickly, this is still going to take some time. Mac users can rest assured, though, that eventually you too will have hundreds of solitaire games available. For Windows users, although Goodsol Solitaire 101 is very basic compared to Pretty Good Solitaire, you can see what the future of Pretty Good Solitaire will look like by taking a look at it. In the meantime, Pretty Good Solitaire as it is will still be updated, and in fact a new version of Pretty Good Solitaire is coming soon. Featured Game - Josephine ------------------------- Josephine is a variation of the classic game Forty Thieves. Josephine is a two deck game. At the start of the game 40 cards (the 40 thieves) are dealt out in 10 piles of 4 cards each with all 40 cards face up and visible. The remaining cards form the stock and turned over one card at a time to a waste pile. When Aces appear in the play they are moved up to found the 8 foundation piles, which are built up in suit in the usual way. The game is won when all the cards are moved up to the foundations. Among the 40 card tableau, building is down by suit. Groups of cards may be moved as a unit if they are in sequence down by suit. This is where Josephine differs from Forty Thieves, which does not allow group moving. Nevertheless, it is still important to create empty spaces as quickly as possible, and also a good idea to keep an empty space or two available so that cards can be more easily moved around. Josephine is considerably easier than Forty Thieves. An average player can win about 25% of the time, while really good players can score considerably better than that. Josephine is one of the 700 games in Pretty Good Solitaire. It can be downloaded from http://www.goodsol.com/download.html . It is also one of the 101 games in Goodsol Solitaire 101, which can be downloaded from http://www.goodsol.com/101/download.html For more featured games, see the Solitaire Spotlight at http://www.solitairegames.com/spotlight.html ------------------------------------------ Thomas Warfield - Software Designer - support@goodsol.com Anne Warfield - Order Fulfillment - orders@goodsol.com ©2008 Goodsol Development Inc.
