Warning! - Pretty Good Solitaire may be addictive. We are not responsible for lost productivity, neglected spouses, children, or pets. We are not responsible for lost sleep because you stay up to play "just one more game".
Athena is a variation of the game Klondike. It is played the same way as Klondike except for a different opening layout.
Athena is played with one deck. At the start of the game, four cards are dealt to each of seven tableau piles. The cards are dealt alternating face down and face up. The remaining cards form a stock.
In the tableau, piles are built down by alternating color. Groups of cards in sequence down by alternate color may be moved as a unit. Spaces are filled by Kings or groups of cards headed by a King.
The stock is turned over three cards at a time to a waste pile by clicking. There are unlimited redeals.
Athena has a number of rules options. In Pretty Good Solitaire (Windows), these options are in the Options menu. In the Mac version, these options are separate bonus games in the full version.
The first option is KingOnly. In Windows, you can turn KingOnly off in the Options menu and then you can play any card to an empty space in the tableau. In the Mac version, this is the bonus game "Athena (easy)".
You can also set the deal from the stock to a one card deal instead of a three card deal. In the Windows version, this is done by selecting Rules from the Options menu. In the Mac version, the bonus game "Athena (deal 1)" is the game with a one card deal and KingOnly on (only Kings allowed in tableau spaces). The bonus game "Athena (deal 1 easy)" is the game with a one card deal and KingOnly off (any card allowed in tableau spaces).
