Seventeens

Top  Previous  Next

1 Deck.  Medium (30%).  Mostly Luck.

Object

To discard all the cards.

Layout

13 tableau piles - the top card is available for play.  Discard pairs of cards that have ranks that add to 17. Aces, Twos, and Threes are discarded as a set (A-2-3).  Spaces are automatically filled from the stock in the center 3 piles, otherwise in the outer 10 piles spaces are not filled.   To discard a set of cards, move each card to the reserve pile in the lower left.  When a A-2-3 set is formed, or when pairs of cards of rank 4 or over add to 17, the cards are automatically discarded to the waste pile.   As a shortcut, pairs of cards that add to 17 (4-K, 5-Q, 6-J, 7-10, 8-9) can be discarded by dropping one on the other.  At the start of the game 3 cards are dealt face up to 10 piles, 1 card is dealt face up to the center 3 piles.

stock (face down, left) - fills spaces in the tableau.

waste (far right)  - Where paired cards go out of play.

reserve (lower left) - where sets of cards are formed.

Valid Discards

A-2-3, 4-K, 5-Q, 6-J, 7-10, 8-9
