Object

To move all the cards to the foundations.

 

Layout

16 foundation piles (left, across top, right) - build up by alternate color from the rank of first card in the first pile, wrapping from King to Ace as necessary, until each pile contains 13 cards.

 

11 tableau piles (bottom row, center) - build down by alternate color, wrapping from Ace to King if necessary.  Only the top card of each pile may be moved.  Spaces are filled automatically from the stock.  At the start of the game 1 card is dealt face up to each pile.

 

reserve (above tableau) - top card is available for play on the foundations only.  At the start of the game 19 cards are dealt here.

 

stock (middle left, face down) - turn over cards 1 at a time to the waste by clicking.  No redeals.

 

waste (next to stock) - top card is available for play on the foundations or tableau.

History

Empress of Italy is a 4 deck variation of Terrace (also known as Queen of Italy) and Blondes and Brunettes.  It was invented by Thomas Warfield.
