Eighteens

Top  Previous  Next

1 Deck.  Hard (10%).  Mostly Luck.

Object

To discard all the cards.

Layout

12 tableau piles - the top card is available for play.  Discard sets of cards that have ranks that add to 18, in sets of 4 cards. One of the 4 cards must be a Jack, Queen, or King, and the remaining 3 cards of lower ranks that add to 18 (the J-Q-K cards are not used in calculating the total).  In addition, no two cards can be of the same rank.  For example, a K-10-6-2 set is acceptable but a Q-6-6-6 set is not. Spaces are automatically filled from the stock.   Aces are discarded singly.  To discard a set of cards, move each card to the reserve pile in the lower left.  When a valid set is formed the cards are automatically discarded to the waste pile.   At the start of the game 1 card is dealt face up to each pile.

stock (face down, left) - fills spaces in the tableau.

waste (far right)  - Where paired cards go out of play.

reserve (lower left) - where sets of cards are formed.

Valid Discards

Ace,   A Jack, Queen, or King and 3 cards of different rank of 10 or less that add to 18.
