Kleine Napoleon is a Beleaguered Castle type game.
At the start of the game four cards of a random rank (such as Queens) are dealt to four foundation piles. These foundation piles will be built either up or down by suit. The first card played to any of the piles determines whether the piles will be built up or down. For example, if the cards dealt are Queens, Iif you play a Jack on one of the Queens the piles will be built down, if you play a King on one of the Queens the piles will be built up. Once the direction of building has been established all four piles are built in the same direction and it cannot be changed. Also, the piles wrap from King to Ace or Ace to King as necessary.
The remainder of the deck is dealt to ten tableau piles. Five cards are dealt to the top eight piles and four cards are dealt to the bottom two piles. All cards are dealt face up. The top card of each tableau pile is available for play. The tableau piles are built up or down regardless of suit. Only one card may be moved at a time.
Finally, there is also a reserve pile. It begins the game empty, but any number of cards may be played here (one at a time). The top card is available for play only on a foundation pile or an empty tableau pile. Cards in the reserve cannot be played to a non-empty tableau pile.
Because of the choice of whether to build up or down, Kleine Napoleon offers opportunity for skill. A good player can will Kleine Napoleon nearly every time.
