Lower 48 is a Forty Thieves type game, related to the game Forty and Eight.

How to Play

It is a two deck game. As usual, there are eight foundation piles, each one is to be built up in suit from Ace to King to win the game.

At the start of the game, five cards are dealt face up to each of eight tableau piles. The piles are built down by alternate color. Only one card at a time may be moved. Spaces may be filled by any card.

The remaining cards form a stock. The stock pile is turned over one card at a time to the waste pile. The top card of the waste pile is available for play on the foundations or tableau.

There is one redeal.

Lower 48 is different from Forty and Eight in that the tableau is built by alternate color instead of by suit, which makes Lower 48 easier. Both games are easier to win than most Forty Thieves games due to the extra redeal.
