Vertical is an easy solitaire game of the addition type.
There are seven tableau piles. At the start of the game, six cards are dealt face up to each tableau pile, except for the middle one, which gets seven cards. The cards are dealt in such a way so that no two cards of the same rank (such as two Kings) are dealt to the same pile. The remaining nine cards are dealt out face up to nine single card reserve piles.
Play consists of simple pairing. The top card of each tableau pile is available as are all of the reserve cards. Available cards of the same rank are paired and removed from play. For example, any available pair of Aces are removed.
The object is to pair all the cards of the deck together. The game is won if you can do this. The game is very simple to play, but there is a little strategy. It is usually best to pair cards that have the most cards underneath them. Only pair reserve cards if there is no other option.
An average player can win Vertical about 50% of the time. It is possible to do much better as most (but not all) positions are winnable.
