Napoleon Solitaire is a shareware Windows solitaire program based on the classic solitaire game Forty Thieves, also sometimes known as Napoleon at St. Helena. The game is played with two decks of cards. Forty cards are dealt face up to ten tableau piles, 4 to each pile. The remainder of the cards form the stock, which is turned over 1 card at a time into a single waste pile. The tableau piles are built down by suit. The aces, when they are available, are moved up to form 8 foundation piles. The object of the game is to move all the cards up to the foundations.
Napoleon Solitaire contains this game and 20 other variations on the game. These variations were created because the basic game is very difficult to win. Some of the variations
are easy; some of them are hard.
Create your own solitaire games with the Game Wizard!
Napoleon Solitaire also contains a Game Wizard that allows you to create your own variations on Forty Thieves. You can change the number of tableau piles from anywhere from 4 to 13, change the number of cards dealt to each pile anywhere from 1 to 9, determine how many of these cards are dealt face down, determine how the tableau piles are to be built down (by suit, by alternate color, etc.), and even determine whether blocks of cards in the tableau may be moved at once. You can then name the resulting set of rules anything you wish, and play it over and over. There are hundreds of thousands of different variations in the rules possible.
Every game (including the games created by the Game Wizard) has full undo/redo, autoplay, won/loss statistics, and automatic game saving on exit.
